16th<\/sup> January 2020 <\/strong>— The East Kalimantan Language Office (hereinafter as the Office) accepted students’ visit from the East Kalimantan Nahdlatul Ulama University (UNU) on Wednesday, 15th<\/sup> January 2020, in Meeting Room 3, the Language Office building, Samarinda. On that occasion, the Office introduced the profile of organization and brief presentations on the functions and task of the Office in East and North Kalimantan. The presentation was conveyed by Anang Santosa, Yudianti Herawati, Nur Bety, and Erwin Darma.

The meeting began at 10.30. It was started with the introduction of all participants by the Chairperson of HIMAHI (International Relations Students’ Association). He hoped that participants will accept the latest information related to the development of language and literature that has been carried out by the Office. Anang Santosa, as Head of the Office, in his remark and presentation about the Language Office’s profile, revealed that the International Relations students need to pay attention on the language situations that occured in surroundings. Students are also invited to participate in the dignity of Bahasa in the midst of many challenges against the language unity. Anang advised that the millennial generation must be proud to use Bahasa and mastering, as needed, the foreign languages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Knowing the history, in particula the region, by means of folklore was a discussion matter for Yudianti Herawati. Yudianti delivered a folklore related to the story of the Kutai Kingdom that once ruled in East Kalimantan. Getting another versions based on Yudianti’s story, students felt happy. In addition, Anang discussed on the development of materials, such as books of folklore and regional language dictionary, that had been produced by the Office when answering student’s question. At the end of presentation, Yudianti also introduced a journal which was published by the Office to the participants.

Information on the fostering activities of Indonesian speakers in East Kalimantan and North Kalimantan was stated by Nur Bety. Bety communicated various activities that have already implemented by the Office. Fostering was implemented via language counseling, literary workshops, training in writing of scientific work, language and literacy competitions, supervision and control of State language’ use, and Language awards. In addition, Bety revealed the existence of a standardized Indonesian language proficiency test product which made by the Language Development and Fostering Agency, the Ministry of Education and Culture. In closing, Bety shared her experience when teaching Bahasa abroad, motivated students to internationalize Bahasa, and invited students to take the Indonesian Language Proficiency Test.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the last session, Erwin Darma informed to attendant of HI students about a translation function in the Office. Erwin stated the same relations and meeting points between the field of translation and the study that HI students have learned. In the discussion session, Erwin also mentioned the importance of choosing the appropriate words in translation and diplomacy, and being positive and proud in using Bahasa.

Visitation of Nahdlatul Ulama University of East Kalimantan was attended 8 administrators of the International Relations Students’ Association. In the closing section, Adrian, as the Chairperson of HIMAHI, said he was happy to accept a lot of informations, thankful for the Office welcomed, and hoped that this visit could be followed up with forms of cooperation.
