North Penajam Paser, 28 November 2023<\/strong> \u2014 Tuesday, 28 November 2023, The Regional Office for Language in East Kalimantan Province, Agency of Language Development and Cultivation, Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology via KKLP Pembahu in collaboration with the Authority of State Capital City (IKN) held a discussion to compose a Technical Team for Prioritizing State Language \u200b\u200bat IKN. The discussion occurred in the Meeting Room, 1st floor, Tower of Coworking Space Site 1B HPK IKN.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Participants came from the Authority of IKN, Ombudsman Kaltim, the Regional Agency of PUPR, the Center for Language and Literature Cultivation, KKLP Pembahu, HPI, the government of PPU, Kukar, and Balikpapan, as well as Sepaku, Samboja, and Muara Jawa, Chiefs of Traditional Community, Balikpapan Botanical Gardens, universities, mass media, and IKN content creators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Head of the Regional Office for Language in East Kalimantan Province, Halimi Hadibrata, M.Pd., said that this was the second discussion of the recommendation of the Focused Group Discussion on Prioritizing the State Language \u200b\u200bat IKN on the last 10 October 2022. He said, “We hope that through this activity we can produce concrete efforts to prioritize the state languages \u200b\u200bat IKN.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Muhsin Palinrungi, S.S., M.A. the Director of Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy of the IKN Authority, expressed his appreciation for holding the discussion. \u201cWe realize that Indonesian is a unifying language. The use of Indonesian in public spaces, such as directions, makes it easier to use Indonesian. We must be proud to use Indonesian. Thank you to the Regional Office for Language in East Kalimantan Province for this partnership with us in holding today’s discussion, “said Muhsin Palinrungi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prof. Aminudin Aziz, M.A., Ph.D. Head of the Language Development and Cultivation as the first speaker starting his prolog that we should be proud as Indonesians because on Monday, 20 November 2023, the 42nd Unesco General Assembly unanimously agreed to make Indonesian as the official language of the Unesco General Assembly. Even other nations recognize and appreciate it. “We should be more appreciative,” said Aminudin Aziz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Further, he explained the massive development in IKN will be followed by the use of language in public spaces. Specifically, it is regulated in Law Number 24 of 2009 on State Flag, Language, \u200b\u200band Emblem, as well as National Anthem Article 36 paragraph 3 and Article 38.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Three principles to prioritize the state language, namely placing and writing the state language in the main position, paying attention to correct language rules, and choosing words\/terms that are appropriate in form and meaning,” he explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He appreciated the institutions that are always careful in using the terms for public spaces. The Agency of Information and Geospatial always consults with the Agency of Language Development and Cultivation regarding the use of terms and topographical names to ensure that is correct according to linguistic rules.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That is the best practice for institutional awareness in using language. “It is necessary to realize that if the institutions use the language in the public space it is considered as a truth by society and will be emulated. “Institutions that don’t care to prioritize the state language can mislead public understanding,” said Aminudin Aziz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201dOf course. It will be easier to plan than to have to correct the use of language in public spaces. In many cases, repairs are not carried out because they require effort and money. Planning language use is certainly more effective. The Agency of Language Development and Cultivation was involved in providing input to improve the use of the term ‘Semanggi Interchange’ revised into ‘Simpang Susun Semanggi\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Abdul Khak, M.Hum, Head of the Center for Language and Literature Cultivation, Agency of Language Development and Cultivation as the second speaker emphasized the need to propose a technical team involving all agencies\/institutions present in the discussion, such as IKN Authority and the Regional Agency of PUPR Ministry in East Kalimantan. “The team will play a role in providing suggestions, input, and consultation regarding plans for using language in public space and the improvement (language) that already exists in IKN,” hoped Abdul Khak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the end, Abdul Khak guided participants to sign a joint commitment to strive to prioritize the state language in IKN. After signing,  the commitment was handed over by the Head of the Agency of Language Development and Cultivation to the IKN Authority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The discussion went smoothly and warmly. The Head of the Agency of Language Development and Cultivation hoped that the technical team could work effectively in efforts to prioritize the state language (IKN). “IKN is the state capital city where prioritizing the state language in public spaces is expected to increase our love for the Indonesian as a nation and state,” said Aminudin Aziz.
