Held on April 28\u201329, 2026, at the Hall of Agency of Education and Culture of West Kutai Regency, the event brought together 70 participants, including elementary and junior high school teachers who speak Benuaq, as well as Benuaq language activists from across West Kutai Regency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The workshop was officially opened by Dr. Kamius Junaedi, S.E., M.Si., Head of the Agency of Education and Culture of West Kutai Regency. In his opening address, he expressed the Regency Government&#8217;s strong support for the initiative and reaffirmed its commitment to continued collaboration with the Regional Language Center in East Kalimantan. He emphasized that preserving the Benuaq language is a shared responsibility essential to safeguarding cultural heritage and preventing linguistic erosion, particularly among younger generations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The workshop featured expert sessions led by Yudianti Herawati, Emanuel, Yamin, and Benedikus. They adressed some topics, such as policy frameworks and the strategic importance of regional language revitalization, Benuaq poetry, Benuaq speeches, Benuaq short stories, Benuaq folktales, Benuaq regional songs, and Benuaq comedy performances.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The primary objective of the workshop was to enhance primary educators&#8217; mastery of Benuaq language and literature, empowering them to serve as multipliers within their professional networks. Trained teachers are expected to mentor peers and integrate Benuaq content into classroom instruction through engaging, age-appropriate methods for elementary and junior high students. Long-term goals include preparing young Benuaq speakers to confidently participate in regional linguistic competitions, such as the annual Mother Tongue Young Speakers Festival (Festival Tunas Bahasa Ibu).
