Indonesian Language for Foreign Speakers (BIPA) is one of the Language Development and Fostering Agency’s excellent programs to increase the number of Indonesian language speakers in the world.
The Language Office of East Kalimantan Province as the Technical Implementation Unit of the Language Development and Fostering Agency performed BIPA activities in order to support the vision and mission of the institution.
Diversity and cross culture interaction in BIPA learning in the classroom is a necessity. Teachers and learners are required the cultural competence in the classroom. It must be possessed to prevent cultural shock which can detain the acquisition and improvement of language skills. Then, the Language Office of East Kalimantan Province held an online BIPA discussion with the experts of language, literature, and culture who were also BIPA promoter and teachers in the title ‘BIPA as a Bridge for Indonesian Language’s Internationalisation’ and ‘Cross Culture in BIPA Learning’ as the theme.
This discussion aimed to improve BIPA insight that related to culture. It held by using Zoom meeting application on Tuesday, December 8, 2020. It presented three speakers, namely Dr. Meilinawati Rahayu M. Hum., Totok Suhardijanto Ph. D., and Dony Setiawan, M. Pd.
They presented the papers on Cross Culture in BIPA Learning, Language Compilation in Teaching Materials, Cross Culture in BIPA Policies. The participants comprised teachers, BIPA promoters, and others from Indonesia and even from abroad. (Ms)
