Samarinda, 2 March — Regional Office for Language in East Kalimantan Province held a Technical Coordination Meeting for Regional Language Revitalization with regional language experts/teachers of Kenyah, Kutai Malay, and Paser. It took place at Ruhui Rahayu room, Office of the Governor of East Kalimantan Province on Thursday, 2 March 2023. The meeting was officially opened by Halimi Hadibrata, M.Pd, the Head of the Regional Office for Language in East Kalimantan Province. The keynote speaker was Syaiful Bahri Lubis, M.Hum. Center for Development and Preservation of Language and Literature, Agency for Language Development and Cultivation, Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology.

A total of 93 people consisting of local language teachers, traditional institutions, and local language activists participated in the meeting. At the moment, the speaker focused on the Policy of Regional Language Preservation, the Program of Regional Language Preservation in Indonesia, the Implementation of Merdeka Belajar: the Revitalization of Regional Language, and Learning Models for Revitalizing Regional Language. On that occasion, he presented such materials that can be taught for the Revitalization of Regional Language program. He hoped the native speakers in the community, especially the young generation, can grow and be proud of their language. Learning creativity for local languages ​​under the umbrella of Merdeka Belajar is needed to attract the young generation’s interest. (dk)
