Samarinda, 31 May 2023 — Regional Office for Language in East Kalimantan Province in collaboration with the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), Mulawarman University held the Dissemination of the XII Indonesian Language Congress (KBI XII). The dissemination was organized at the Auditorium of the Deanate of FKIP Mulawarman University Samarinda on 31 May 2023. Some institutions, such as Widyagama University, Mulawarman University, and UINSI, schools, MGMP Bahasa Indonesia, BPMP East Kalimantan Province, Agency of Teacher Training Centre of East Kalimantan Province, Agency of Communication and Information of East Kalimantan, and press (AMSINDO Kaltim and Kaltim Post), were invited. In addition, some participations presented virtually, such as the Agency of Education and Culture, Agency of Library and Archives, Balikpapan University, Kutai Kartanegara University, and other institutions, as well as language and literature activists from East Kalimantan and North Kalimantan Province.

In his remarks, Halimi Hadibrata said that the KBI XII which will be held in Jakarta on 26 to 29 October 2023 should be disseminated. “Academics and practitioners in the field of language are expected to contribute their thoughts for the XII Indonesian Language Congress recommendations preparation,” he added.

The Dean of FKIP Mulawarman University, Muh. Amir Masruhim expressed his gratitude to the Regional Office for Language in East Kalimantan Province for involving FKIP Unmul to hold the dissemination. “Hopefully, this activity can be a discussion sphere in an effort for the XII Indonesian Language Congress preparation,” said Muh. Amir Masruhim.

Dony Setiawan as keynote speaker from the Centre for Language Strengthening and Empowerment, Agency for Language Development and Cultivation virtually presented that the XII Indonesian Language Congress was motivated by the development and improvement of the role and function of the Indonesian language. It could not be separated from the results of the discussion of the previous Indonesian Language Congress.

KBI XII purposed to determine the direction of language development and cultivation policies in Indonesia. In addition, it aimed to gather stakeholders to exchange ideas and the latest information on handling language and literature. The KBI XII took the theme Literacy in the Diversity Progress for the Nation Progress. Technically, the community can participate and contribute as KBI XII participants by applying on the Indonesian Language Congress page kbi.kemdikbud.go.id. At the end of the discussion, Yusak Hudiyono, Chair of HISKI of East Kalimantan also conveyed the execution plans of the XII HISKI National Conference in November 2023. (ak)
