Samarinda, 16 June 2023 — Friday, 16 June 2023, Regional Office for Language in East Kalimantan Province has attended the invitation for the Training of Publication Media Managers of the General Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) of East Kalimantan Province at the Mercure Hotel, Samarinda. It was organized by the Agency of National Unity and Politics (Bakesbangpol) of East Kalimantan Province and Bawaslu. In his remarks, Hari Dermanto, M.H. the Chairman of Bawaslu expressed his gratitude to Ali Kusno, M.Pd. from the Regional Office for Language in East Kalimantan Province to deliver the presentation of the use of the appropriate and correct Indonesian language spelling to the Bawaslu social media managers. Besides, Johantan Alfando W.S., M.I.Kom. from the Indonesian Anti-Defamation Society (Mafindo Kaltim) was invited as the second speaker.
“Nowadays, social media is an effective tool in conveying messages to the public. Therefore, it is necessary to consider the use of appropriate and correct (Indonesian) language that can attract public attention, especially millennials. This is an effort to succeed in the 2024 General Election stage,” he explained.
Ali Kusno presented the Indonesian language rules that should be considered in correspondence, social media, and legal products issued by Bawaslu. In addition, he explained the language error analysis found in language products issued by Bawaslu.
Based on the analysis, the Bawaslu language products are, mostly, appropriate and correct in the use of Indonesian rules. It needed such improvement in terms of the spelling used.
Participants were very enthusiastic and involved in the discussion. They realized to explore and master more about the subject as the staff of Bawaslu. Therefore, the committee would propose to the chair for further discussions that could be held at the Bawaslu office.
The Regional Office for Language in East Kalimantan Province has committed to contributing to the success of the 2024 General Election stages with related institutions. In addition, other institutions can organize similar activities by coordinating with Regional Office for Language in East Kalimantan Province. (ak)
