North Penajam Paser, July 20, 2026 — The Regional Language Center in East Kalimantan, through the Language and Literature Preservation Team (Yudianti Herawati, S.S., M.A., Nurul Masfufah, M.Pd., and Aquari Mustikawati, S.S.) in collaboration with the Language and Literature Development Team (Misriani, M.Pd.) conducted a Regional Language Corpus Data Collection for the Paser language. The initiative took place across Paser Regency and North Penajam Paser Regency from July 14 to 16, 2026.

This initiative aims to systematically gather and organize Paser language texts into a comprehensive digital database. Sources include folktales, short stories, poetry, speeches, local content textbook excerpts, regional songs, and various Paser publications. This effort seeks to enrich the Paser language corpus by capturing diverse texts that reflect the linguistic and cultural richness of the Paser community.

Over the three-day period, the team visited the library of SMP Negeri 1 Long Kali in Paser Regency to access its archive of Paser-language texts. Additionally, they consulted with two local experts from Long Kali, Lismawati, S.Pd., and Isnawati, S.Pd.S.D. to gather information on existing Paser manuscripts and documents, thereby broadening the scope of the collected data.

Furthermore, the team engaged with key figures active in the preservation and development of the Paser language at the North Penajam Paser (PPU) FTBM Forum, including Yahya, M.Pd. and Samnoor Jannah. During the visit, the team conducted interviews and reviewed corpus data at the forum. They also met with Aji Luqman Panji, S.Pd., M.Pd., representing the Paser Traditional Institution. The resulting data collection was extensive, encompassing sempuri (stories), speech transcripts, readings from local content teaching materials, and excerpts from various books on Paser culture. This successful initiative was made possible through the active support and collaboration of all involved parties. (nm)
