Samarinda, 19th June 2019 — Language Face Award for School in the East Kalimantan and North Kalimantan 2019 conducted on 14th January until 2nd May 2019. It was a series of Language and Literacy Month commemoration activities in 2019. It was a representation of a positif attitude in using Indonesian language as Language State in public space. The East Kalimantan Language Office organized this act to improve the language order conditions’ in public space. It correlated to the lifelong literacy education under the mandate of Law number 24 year 2009 on Flag, Language, and Symbol of the State, and the National Anthem.
In practice, the participants sent their 10 photos of Indonesian usage at school. The photos were school signboards, name of the building, name of public facilities, name of the meeting room, name of the product/service, name of the officer position, name of general direction/sign, and banners or other information tools. Every photos of the object was named under the codifications, resolutions, formats, and minimum side sizes of specific photo. The appraisal of the photos was based on linguistics, physical language, and language typography.
Twenty one of the State of Junior High School and Islamic Junior High School in the East Kalimantan and North Kalimantan took part in the Selection of Language Face Award 2019. The schools that achieved the apreciation as the winners as follows. Firstly, SMPN 1 Samarinda. Secondly, SMPN 3 Bontang. Thirdly, SMPN 14 Balikpapan. Fourthly, SMPN 2 Longkali, and last, SMPN 1 Tarakan. Those five schools were the best in the provincial level. They would get the sertificates and coaching gift. At the end, they had the right to participate in the National Level of the Selection of Language Face for School 2019.
