Tarakan, 10th October 2019 — Cheering up the Language and Literature Month 2019, the East Kalimantan Language Office held ‘Gebyar Literasi’ in the Province of East Kalimantan and North Kalimantan, namely Balikpapan, Samarinda, and Tarakan. ‘Gebyar Literasi Kaltara’ took place in Tarakan. It was a series of preliminary activities in Commemoration of Language and Literature Month 2019. The event conducted at Lotus Panaya Hotel on 9th until 10th October 2019. It was attended by 100 participants. They were literacy activists, teachers, and high school and college students of Tarakan and surrounding. ‘Gebyar Literasi Kaltara’ was opened by the Secretary of Education and Culture Office of Tarakan, Drs. H. M. Boni Ponto, M.Pd. The Secretary said that the event aims to improve the basic literacy skills of the community, increase the motivation for participants to be more creative in their creation, and appreciate and create literary works. The speakers and instructors at that event were writers who came from Riau (Norham Abdul Wahab), Yogyakarta (Raudal Tanjung Banua and Nur Wahida Idris), and South Kalimantan (Hajriansyah).
