Regional Office for Language in East Kalimantan Province held a Primary Teacher Training activity on 2 to 5 August 2022 at the Grand Victoria Hotel, Samarinda. It attended 76 participants, such as communities, traditional institutions, religious institutions, and schools, from Kutim, Kukar, and Samarinda.
The training was officially opened by the acting Head of Regional Office for language in East Kalimantan Province, M. Erwin Darma, M.Pd. Besides, Chairman of the Great Dayak Kenyah of East Kalimantan, Medan Kedung, attended and spoke in that opening ceremony.
There were four speakers presented, namely (1) Medan Kedung, (2) Martinus Usat, (3) Dr. Jiuhardi, S.E., M.M., and (4) Noah Lenjau, M.Pd. Participants received materials (1) Kenyah Culture and Language, (2) Writing and Practice on Storytelling, (3) Writing and Reading of Kenyah Poetry, (4) Making and Practice on Speech, and (5) Practice on Developing Learning Models.
Through this training, participants are expected to produce a learning model of Kenyah language revitalization on the elementary and junior high school stage. In addition, they are expected to immediately implement the revitalization of the Kenyah language for elementary and junior high school students. Thus, they should prepare young generation to take a part in the national and provincial level competition of Festival Tunas Bahasa Ibu.
Head of Department of Education and Culture of Samarinda City, Dr. H. Asli Nuryadin, closed the training. This activity is very positive to preserve the regional language in East Kalimantan so that it is not threatened with extinction, especially among young generations, stated the Head. Hopefully, participants will act as pioneers in the community and schools to echo and encourage the revitalization of regional languages. (nm)
