Regional Office for Language in East Kalimantan Province and Language Ambassadors (Dubas) of East Kalimantan and North Kalimantan carried out literacy cultivation event which is targeting young generation on Tuesday and Wednesday, 9 and 10 August 2022. Language Servant: Literacy Cultivation for Young Generation in 2022 was performed in Malinau Regency, North Kalimantan Province. It purposed to grow students’ reading  interest in South Malinau District.

It brought a hundred students of early childhood education school (PAUD) and elementary school (SD) grades 1, 2, and 3. It was held in four villages in South Malinau District, namely Sengayan, Laban Nyarit, Langap, and Paya Seturan villages. Four Language Ambassadors of East Kalimantan and North Kalimantan assigned as speaker, namely Ling Chen Ni, Regina Lilita Bulan, Amos Rante Salu, and M. Nurcholis Azhari. They presented the literacy material in interesting way, such as in the form of songs, games (giant snakes and ladders game and trains game), and fairy tales.

Language Servant activities: Literacy Cultivation for Young Generation in the South Malinau District had some challenges. The journey started from Sultan Aji Muhammad Sulaiman Airport, Balikpapan to Juwata Airport, Tarakan. Then, we continued, approximately three hours, from Tengkayu Harbor, Tarakan to the speedboat portland, Jalan AMD, Malinau Kota Village. On that way, the speedboat stoped at several places to drop off goods or passengers. On land, about three hours, a road trip must be taken to reach the venues in four villages by passing a mine road in the mid-wilds. Along the way, we saw mining cars and heavy equipment passed by.

The first activity was held in Sengayan Village, at Santa Maria Hall and was attended 25 participants. The second activity was carried out at the Muapalat Reading Park, Laban Nyarit Village. It was followed 41 participants. The third activity was performed in Langap Village, at SDN 002 Southh Malinau with 35 participants. The last activity presented 41 participants at SDN 005 South Malinau, Paya Seturan Village. The participants very enthusiastic. Also, the presence of other students and teachers to participate so that the total number of participants passed through the allocation reflected enthusiasm to the event. The teachers expressed their appreciation and positive respond to the event as well as expected the event could be carried out continuously.
