The Indonesian language has a very important and strategic role in facilitating the Indonesian progress. In improving the Indonesian language role and position, Ministry of Education and Culture via Agency for Language Development and Cultivation has developed Test of Indonesian Language Proficiency (UKBI). UKBI as a test series is developed to measure the proficiency level of Indonesian speakers, both native and foreign speakers. For this reason, Agency for Language Development and Cultivation provides testing service for some targets, namely students, educators, public, and foreign citizens. Nowadays, UKBI service development has taken several forms, namely paper-based testing, computer-based testing, UKBI Dinamis, and UKBI Adaptif Merdeka.
Center for Cultivation of Language and Literature, Agency for Language Development and Cultivation, Ministry of Education and Culture held Technical Assistant of UKBI Adaptif Merdeka Service Management for UKBI Team of Regional Agency/Office for Language throughout Indonesia on 24–28 May 2021 at Hotel Santika Taman Mini Indonesia Indah. This activity is aimed to improve and refresh UKBI Team knowledges and experiences in conducting UKBI Adaptif Merdeka testing service which is launched by Minister of Education and Culture in January 2021 and, still ongoing, carried out massively throughout Indonesia. A member of UKBI Team of Regional Office for Language in East Kalimantan Province actively participated in that technical assistant. In 2021, Regional Office for Language in East Kalimantan Province, to support that national policy program, will conduct UKBI Adaptif Merdeka testing service for 8.000 students.
Practically, in 2021, UKBI Adaptif Merdeka testing service for junior and senior high school students is free of charge. The participants of UKBI Adaptif Merdeka are expected to reach 240,000 students throughout Indonesia. To fulfill adequate service quantity and quality, Agency for Language Development and Cultivation involves staff of Regional Agency/Office for Language to be supervisors in the exam. Besides, the Agency hard works to develop UKBI Adaptif Merdeka application by involving an application developer to facilitate the testee.
