August 18, 2021 — On August 15-16, 2021, Regional Office for Language in East Kalimantan Province held a Workshop on Inventory Results of Indigenous Language Vocabulary in East Kalimantan Province. 20 participants who were composed of the Office staff and East Kalimantan and North Kalimantan Language Ambassadors’ representatives gathered at the Mercure Hotel Samarinda. Limited participants and stricted health protocols are conducted in the workshop.
The Workshop was officially opened by Drs. Anang Santosa, M. Hum, Head of Regional Office for Language in East Kalimantan Province. In his remarks, the Head hoped that this workshop would assist the participants in collecting data and determining indigenous language vocabulary which met the appropriate requirements to propose in Kamus Besar Bahasa Indonesia (KBBI). In addition, the Head expected this workshop increased participants’ knowledge in documenting indigenous languages.
It presented three speakers of three indigenous languages in East Kalimantan, namely Tunjung, Kenyah, and Bahau. First, Pinus was Tunjung’s speaker who was a village head or Petinggi in Ngenyan Asa, Barong Tongkok, West Kutai. Second, Sekimin was Kenyah’s speaker, the Head of Rindang Banua Hamlet, South Sangatta, East Kutai. Third, Mikael Carolus Jaang, S.Pd. was Bahau’ speaker from Balong Asa, Barong Tokok, West Kutai. The speakers verified the data and provided additional insight of their indegenous languages, as well as clarified and identified some unique vocabularies that has not concept in Indonesian yet.
Workshop on Inventory Results of Indigenous Language Vocabulary in East Kalimantan Province was a follow up activity from the indigenous language data collection that have been carried out by the members of expert team and professional service of Dictionary and Terminology, Word and Term Analysts, and the technical staff of Regional Office for Language in East Kalimantan Province. It was one of the Office programs to develop language in increasing the ability to express Indonesian language. The workshop will be followed by a commission session of the indigenous language (SKBD) which aims to propose the indigenous vocabulary data go in KBBI.
