The Language Development and Book Agency, Ministry of Education and Culture via the Center for Fostering Language and Literature held a Technical Guidance for Facilitators of Reading-Writing Literacy on Kalimantan Regional Levels event in Gran Senyiur Hotel, Balikpapan, East Kalimantan on 29 April–3 May 2019.
The event was followed by eighty participants, which was consist of teachers, literacy activists, and language educators from Kalimantan Island.
The technical guidance was officially opened by the Head of the Center for Fostering Language and Literature, Hurip Danu Ismadi. It was implemented to support the growth of literacy culture in the framework of the National Literacy Movement. As a result, a number of facilitators were selected and involved in best practice of literacy in the regions.
In his speech, Hurip Danu Ismadi hoped that participants could become agents of change in literacy in their respective workplaces.
“There must be agents of change. A trigger. Who? The teacher at school. The literacy activists in community. Language educators at Language Office. I hope it becomes a national link for 500 boosters. After this event, you become a facilitator in your respective area. We will give you certificates and letters to be submitted to the Education Office and Local Government, “said Danu.
The activity held in five days and involved some national literacy instructors who were selected by the Language Development and Book Agency, such as Hurip Danu Ismadi, Anang Santosa, Rabiatul Adawiyah, Nurul Asmayani, Heri Sucipto, Palupi Mutiasih, and Puteri Asmarini.
In the technical guidance activity, participants were provided with an understanding and training on literacy management which can be implemented in their school and community environment, understanding types of texts, creative writing, preparing Lesson Plans, making action plans, and editing.
