Sepaku, June 28, 2024 — On Friday, June 28, 2024, the Regional Office for Language in East Kalimantan Province participated as one of the speakers on the Focus Group Discussion of Linguistic Landscapes for Public Signs in the Region of  IKN, Penajam Paser Utara, East Kalimantan. The discussion is organized in Sepaku, North Penajam Paser by the Research Center for Language, Literature, and Community, the Research Organization for Archaeology, Language, and Literature, the Agency of National Research and Innovation.

The Regional Office for Language in East Kalimantan Province team consisted of Halimi Hadibrata as speaker and Ali Kusno and Abd. Rahman as participants. Halimi conveyed various activities and efforts conducted by the Regional Office for Language in East Kalimantan Province to develop the State language in the IKN public spaces.

Furthermore, Ali Kusno said that, generally, the linguistic landscape on administrative toponymy in the IKN area, such as Sepaku, Samboja, and Muara Jawa, showed that the community in the IKN area is quite heterogeneous. In language use, communities are not inclined to highlight tribal identity and prioritize the use of Indonesian. It could be a positive basis for social development in the IKN area. (ak)
